EXETER ARENA 3000 METRE Monday 23rd November 2015
2013/14 3000m WINTER TRACK SERIES AT EXETER ARENA – ROUND THREE NOVEMBER 2014 13 Torbay Athletic Club members took part in the third and final round of the Exeter 3000 metre winter series. For many it was there first experience running on a real athletic track. Nothing like the boggy lumpy summer tracks we have in Torbay. The event was held at the South West’s premier athletics stadium all weather track at Exeter Arena. On the night each runner had to complete 7½ laps of the 400 metre track (almost 1.9 miles). There were 6 races on the evening with the slowest runners in first race and fastest in last race. There was also a one-mile race for children under 11 years old consisting of 4 laps. Conditions on the night were much colder then the previous two rounds with temperature close to freezing. The event attracted over 120 athletes from most of Devon and beyond. There were age category awards for athletes who completed all three rounds. Scoring was based on accumulative time over the 3 rounds. Many runners were as young as 12 years old competed with the adults and vets in the 3000 metres event. The Torquay based club boast a number of amazing juniors who were all age 13 years old. Coach Tim Peters was very keen to show every one how good these youngsters are. These juniors are keen to do endurance training and compete in endurance events and they train mostly running the streets of Torquay as there not track facilities in the bay. Exeter Arena is the nearest track for Torbay runners. This was the last event for a while as the Arena is due to be closed from January to June 2014 for complete re surfacing. Oakley James who completed previous two 3000 metres events ran the third round in a personal best time of 11:02 and on the night Oakley was the fastest runner in 13 and under age group, he was 3rd fastest Torbay runner beating most of the adults male and female members including his coach. Oakley won the 2nd Male 13 category. Megan Webber also completed previous two 3000 metres events and ran the third round in a personal best time of 11:49 Megan started first round with a 11:59 but for round two she was 19 seconds slower. Round three she manage produce her best race ever by 10 seconds in 11:49. Magan won 2nd 13 Girl category and manage to gain two PB’s during the series. Jake Harker ran his first 3000 metres in the 13 and under category and he also had a great run with a finishing time of 13:26. Tim Peter (Junior coach) broke 12-minute for the first time. It was very first run for two new club members and they were very proud to wear the clubs yellow and red vest for their first event. Steve Howlett and Eve Bates who both had great runs. Eve daughter who has just started running entered the under 11 one mile race and was very surprise to finish in a time 7:26. Fastest club member on the night was Martyn Breslan who ran the 3000 metres third round in a time of 9:49, a second slower then his personal best time set at in round two but it was good enough to be awarded second Senior Man prize. Jake Thorn ran round 1 and 2 in 10:44 but he manage to gain a personal best in round 3 by 5 seconds. Jake finished 5th for the overall series. Stephen Wilbraham also improved in the 3rd round by 2 seconds which was good enough for the 2nd Mens Vets 45 award. Stephen Lofthouse missed out on round one, he improved on his 2nd round time by 16 seconds. On the night each runner had to complete 7½ laps of the 400 metre track (almost 1.9 miles). There were 6 races on the evening with the slowest runners in first race and fastest in last race. There was also a one-mile race for children under 11 years old consisting of 4 laps The event attracted over 120 athletes from Devon and beyond. Although Martyn Breslan, Stephen Wilbraham, Stephen Lofthouse and Megan Webber had run the day before in the Plymouth cross country some excellent performances were recorded.
