TOTNES 10k 2015 TEAM PRIZE zoom
In photo from left Peter Monaghan, Andrew Longthorpe, Simon Longthorpe, David Tomlin, Arran Tocknell.

Very well done to all Torbay members at Totnes 10k, Juniors and Seniors.
Well organised race by the Teignbridge Trotters.

The race its self is nearly all off road, following alongside the beautiful River Dart. It starts and finishes on Borough Park and uses the Totnes Leisure Centre as its HQ.

Torbay has won men team prize again (6 to count) with five members in top ten you would had thought Torbay would win it easily though Exmouth Harriers had 3 members in top 8 including the race winner but only they only had four members in front of our sixth man Andrew Longthorpe. Torbay Team finished with a cumulative time of 3:47:01 just 4 minutes 49 seconds quicker than 2nd place mens team Exmouth Harriers.
Simon Longthorpe first Torbay member home in 3rd place overall and 2nd MV35. Arran Tocknell manage to pip Lee Turner for 4th place by 11 seconds. Arran was 2nd Senior Man and Lee was 3rd MV35. Peter Monaghan finished 7th overall and broke the course record for MV50. .David Tomlin was our tenth man home and was second MV40.

Torbay men has won the team prize 8 times in 9 years and 7 times in a row.

2nd Overall was James Baker from Chichester Runners AC, James finished first in yesterdays Parke 5k parkrun breaking the course record and being the only runner ever to break the 17 minute barrier. Today he finished 10 seconds behind Ethopian Exmouth Harrier runner Berihu Hadera.

Scott Watkin and Charlie Baker support our 42 senior members at the start and finish, Scott with a broken foot and Charlie Baker with a broken arm. Hopefully they will be fixed in a few weeks.

Marnie Woodley was first Torbay lady home and won FV35 category. Sarah Wake was 2nd club lady home. Sally Davies won her age category FV60.

After the race runners enjoyed the famous selection of Trotter cakes, a BBQ and wash down with a pint from the beer tent. Almost 600 runners took part

WINS 5th MENS TEAM PRIZE IN A ROW

Torbay AC made it 7 wins in a row dating back to 2007 at Totnes 10k 2013
The multi terrain course starting and finishing in Borough Park Totnes is nearly all off road and quite challenging in places with a nasty hill in the woods which was slippery and muddy. The race distance a little longer than a 10k and with challenging terrain made for much slower times than a road race.

By winning the First men’s team prize Torbay AC made it 7 wins in a row dating back to 2007.

The Club also produced the biggest and strongest representation at the event with 32 members completing the race.

First home for Torbay AC was Simon Longthorpe in 4th position in 36:50, just missing out of a podium place.

New to the club Lee Woodruff running his first 10k, had a great run in 43:50..Martyn Breslan had a good run breaking in to the top ten and finishing sub 40 minutes. Arran Tocknell had a massive stitch and had to stop for 90 seconds but manage to continue and finish in 21st. position.

The 3rd Men’s Team prize was also claimed by Torbay, consisting of Russell Hart, Jake Thorn, Kevin Fine, Stephen Wilbraham, Anthony Raine and Steven Monaghan.

Torbay Ladies had strong competition from Exmouth Harriers, but good performances from all four Torbay ladies gave their club the win.

3rd Ladies team prize was also Torbay’s consisting of Irene Hewings, Rachel Longthorpe, Linda Philippou and Tessa Hearfield, just beating neighbouring South Devon AC top ladies team.

Race winner and new course record holder was Tom Merson from South West Road Runners in a record time of 34:22, breaking the two year record by 35 seconds and winning by almost a minute ahead of Andrew Chambers from Bristol and West.

Torbay’s age category winners were…
Simon Longthorpe 2nd MV35, Pete Monaghan 1st MV45, Jon Parkinson 2nd MV45, Ray Brown 2nd MV65
Stephenie Townsend 1st FV35, Cathy Parkinson 1st FV45, Wendy Urban 1st FV50

WINS 4th MENS TEAM PRIZE IN A ROW

Torbay AC Men wins Totnes 10k team prize 2012
More than 440 runners completed the scenic off-roader along the banks of the River Dart and Dartington Estate. Conditions were difficult with plenty of mud and water, which made it very slippery. In defiance of the atrocious conditions there were three course records set.

TORBAY AC took the men’s team prize at a stormy running of the Totnes 10k. With treacherous conditions underfoot on the river bank footpaths, off-road shoes were required to stay upright.

The race was part of Torbay AX’s grand prix series and 38 members braved the conditions to take part. As well as the men’s prize the ladies team were second and there were age-group wins at MV40, MV55, FV60, MV65 and MV70.

The men’s team prize went to Torbay AC comprising of Lee Turner, Jon Parkinson, Pete Monaghan, Russell Cleave, Kevin Fine and Dean Titchener amassing a miserly 98 points.

WINS 2nd MENS TEAM PRIZE IN A ROW

Totnes 10K
Sunday 1st August 2010. 11:00 am

Torbay Athletic Club dominated the Totnes 10k
report by Ray Brown.

Torbay Athletic Club dominates the Totnes 10k Race

More than 30 Torbay AC members turned up at Borough Park near the Totnes Leisure Centre last Sunday, this being the starting and finishing point for one of England’s most attractive 10k races .

The tough and hilly mainly off-road course, which was organised once again by Newton Abbot’s Teignbridge Trotters, follows the river Dart along winding foot paths and Bridlepaths, and attracts an increasing number of runners each year, with this time a record 576 runners starting.

This steadily improving race was as usual safely marshalled with military precision, and when the predicted hot sun failed to materialise, the cooling cloud cover enabled James Baker from Chichester Runners AC to beat the men’s course record by an amazing 32 seconds. Nicola Brookland from Bristol won the ladies race with Lucy Commander finishing 2nd, whilst Torbay’s Wendy Urban (FV45) finished closely behind to claim 3rd.

Torbay’s Lee Turner finished 3rd, only 23 seconds behind Jon Hamblyn of Aldershot Farnham & District. Overall, Torbay AC produced quite spectacular results, coming first with both the men’s and ladies’ teams with all six Torbay Athletic Club Men’s Members finishing in the top 20.

WINS MENS TEAM PRIZE

Totnes 10k Results
Sunday 5th August 2007 @ 11am

Torbay Athletic Club Win both Men and Ladies Team Prizes at Totnes 10K.

Over 500 runners entered the highly competitive Totnes 10K multi terrain race – which is actually nearer 7 miles than the 6.2miles that a 10k normally is. Held over woods, tracks, fields and some road, this race (organised by the Teignbridge Trotters Running Club) once again held true to form by being a scorching day, in the nine years this race has been held the weather has always been hot and sunny,!!

Torbay once again had a large contingent of 33 members taking part in the race, proving they are a force to be reckoned with by winning both the men and ladies team prizes.

However even allowing for the heat on the day, it was still muddy and slippery in the woods (from all the rain of the previous weeks) leading to a few casualties including young 15 year old Sean Minto who took a nasty tumble and had to be taken away in an ambulance with a suspected broken toe!

Helen Parkinson ran well finishing as third lady, while using the race as a sharpener prior to defending her World Champion Quadrathlon title in the Czech Republic next weekend. Wendy Urban finished as fourth lady, also taking second in her age category. Pete Monaghan was fourth overall, continuing his good run of form and won his V40 age category with Jon Parkinson gaining second in his Male Vet 35 category.

TORBAY ALMOST WINS MENS TEAM PRIZE
Totnes 10k

Aug 6th, 2006

Torbay just missed out on winning themens team prize as Pete Monaghan and Lee Turner are unable to compete in team events after transferring from another athletics club

Once again an excellently organised event by the Teignbridge Trotters drew 25 Torbay AAC members to compete in the Totnes 10K, there were 453 finishers from all over the south west who enjoyed great views and scenery running alongside the river dart.

Allthough advertised as a 10K this mainly off road race is further than the normal 6.2 miles being nearer 7 miles in distance – which is reflected in the slower than normal times for a 10k race.

Although the weather was hot it was kind enough to give some cloud cover for the majoity of the race and, therefore, some excellent results where obtained.

Torbay just missed out on winning the team prize as Pete Monaghan and Lee Turner are unable to compete in team events after transferring from another athletics club, having to wait a six month period before competing for a new club. However the Torbay men had an excellent showing with 5 in the top 20, Pete Monaghan taking 2nd prize in the male vet 40 category and Jason Mann winning the male vet 45 category.

Wendy Urban also had a good run to finish as 3rd lady overall which was only 2 seonds outside her winning time of 2003. She was beaten by the ladies winner Heather Foundling-Hawker of Honiton running club and Helen Parkinson in 2nd place who currently runs under Bideford AAC vest but has moved to Torbay and is now training with Torbay AAC.

Tessa Hearfield ran well to come in as second in the female Vet 50 category and last but definitely not least! —

Cathy Fewings enjoyed a more leisurely race at Totnes whilst accompanying her sister Claire Comber in her first ever race. Well done Claire another budding athlete in the offing!!!

Cathy was entitled to take it easy having won the first lady prize at the very tough Strete Challenge 10 the day before.
