WHAT IS A TRIATHLON,
DUATHLON, AQUATHLON OR QUADRATHLON
Aquathlon consists of a continuous, two-stage
race involving swimming followed by running.
Duathlon
is an athletic event (not to be confused with biathlon) that
consists of a running leg, followed by a cycling leg and then
another running leg in a format bearing some resemblance to
triathlons. The International Triathlon Union governs the sport
internationally.
Triathlon
is an endurance sports event consisting of swimming, cycling and
running over various distances. As a result, proficiency in
swimming, cycling, or running alone is not sufficient to
guarantee a triathlon athlete a competitive time; trained
triathletes have learned to race each stage in a way that
preserves their energy and endurance for subsequent stages. In
most modern triathlons, these events are placed back-to-back in
immediate sequence and a competitor's official time includes the
time required to "transition" between the individual legs of the
race, including any time necessary for changing clothes and
shoes.
Full Iron Man
Triathlon consist of 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2
mile marathon run.
Half Iron Man Triathlon
consist of 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile ½ marathon
run.
Olympic Distance Triathlon
is 1500 metre swim - 40 km bike - 10 km run)
Quadrathlon
is an endurance sports event composed of four individual
disciplines. All four disciplines are completed in succession
and the lowest overall time decides the winner.
The World Quadrathlon Federation
defines that a quadrathlon consists of
1. swimming (2
miles / 3.2 kilometers)
2. kayaking (12.4
miles / 20 kilometers)
3. cycling (100
miles / 161 kilometers)
4. running (26.2
miles / 42 kilometers)
Current World
Quadrathlon Champion is
Torbay Tri member Helen Dyke from
Brixham.
