BARNSTAPLE HALF MARATHON AND MARATHON

The Jewson Barnstaple Marathon and Half marathon has rapidly established itslef as one of the south west’s premier running events.With a flat, fast course, a large (but not too large!) field and loads of support; it is a perfect marathon for first timers and experienced runners alike.

Barnstaple Marathon

THE DISNEYLAND HALF MARATHON
Sunday 25th September 2016

Eve Bates and Sarah Wake both Torbay AC training partners, ran in the first Disneyland Paris Half Marathon on Sunday along with over 13,000 people from 30 different countries who took part in either the 5km on Saturday or Half Marathon on Sunday. The girls had a great weekend meeting many from the USA who had travelled over especially to run in the new races. Both ladies entered into the spirit of things by wearing their Minnie Mouse outfits during the race which had an early start setting off at 7 am, running the first 3.5 mile loop round Disney’s two theme parks, before heading along behind the scenes then out along the near by roads and a local running track, before returning past the resorts’ themed hotels to finish just beyond the Disney Village. Result times were not important to them as the girls had stopped so many times to have their photos taken with the Disney characters along the route making some special memories.


NAOMI WINS NEWTON ABBOT LADIES 10k

At the Newton Abbot Ladies 10k Torbay AC ‘s Naomi Flanagan beat Helen Anthony of Teignbridge Trotters by less then a minute to take the top podium spot in a time of (39:34) 23rd was Lisa Haley (50:56) and 136th Anne Lucas (1:03:49) This ladies only now in its 19th year started and finished at the beautiful Dornafield Caravan and Camping Site, with a scenic course following undulating rural lanes through the local hamlets of Ogwell and Denbury.


PETE WINS TAUNTON 10k

At Taunton Pete Monaghan was also first, winning their 10k in (35:10) with Amelia Hall 75th in 43:27 and 2nd FV45. With the start in the road outside Blackbrook Pavilion the gently undulating circular course heads through the residential Holway area of Taunton before following country roads through the picturesque village of Stoke St Mary and then on into the hamlet of Haydon before crossing the M5 and returning to the Finish inside the Pavilion grounds.


IAN HAS BIG PB AT BMW BERLIN MARATHON

Torbay’s Ian Tyson claimed a personal best time improvement by 10 minutes to finish in (2:58:31) in the Berlin marathon, one of the largest and most popular road races in the world forming part of the World Marathon Majors, a series offering a $1 million prize purse to be split equally between the top male and female marathoners. The course within the metropolis started and finished near the Brandenburg Gate. Because of the division of city, the marathon events before 1990 were limited to the area of West Berlin. Only on 30 September 1990, were athletes able to run through the Brandenburg Gate and the unified city saw its first race running through both halves.


BRISTOL HALF MARATHON

Three Torbay members competed in the Bristol Half Marathon with over 10,000 other runners finishing 2199th was Keith Simpson (1:50:08) – 2596 Nick Robinson (1:53:07) – 3359 Brian Hall (1:58:14) Part of the Great Run Series, the Great Bristol Half Marathon comes with its own distinguished history. First staged in 1989 and known as the Bristol Half Marathon, the city centre run has become a long-held tradition in the national running calendar. Over 10,000 runners every year make this a must do event with an atmosphere second to none.


THE STOCKLAND SCAMPER 10k
Sunday 25th September 2016

At the Stockland Scamper 58th finisher was Torbay s William Valentine (1:19:22) this 10k is a “scamper” up and down some of Stockland’s most scenic fields, roads and tracks starting and finishing at Stockland Village Hall.

Saturday 24th September 2016

At PARKE 5k parkrun a total of 157 runners took part with 9th finisher Russell Hart (21:55) – 41 Mark Bruce (24:58) – 45 Ian Hayward (25:13) – 76 Stephen Lofthouse (28:04) – 142 Gemma Radcliffe (36:35).
At EXETER RIVERSIDE 5K parkrun total of 352 runners took part.

42nd was David Maxwell (20:49) – 82 Steve Carr (22:33)


SCOTTISH HALF MARATHON
Sunday 18th September 2016

2016 SCOTTISH HALF MARATHON 2016 EDINBURGH
Nine Torbay Athletes headed north for the Scottish Half Marathon, taking the opportunity to also, visit some of the many historic sights around Edinburgh. The half marathon route was seriously flat & rapid ideal if you want to set a personal best time, starting just outside Edinburgh the route followed the magnificent East Lothian Golf Coast before finishing the final furlong at Musselburgh Racecourse. Over 5.000 runners entered the event with Stephen Wilbraham (1:33:26) first Club member home for Torbay having run his fastest half marathon for well over 3 years. Lotta Savola was first club lady home and 16th lady overall in ( 1:39:25) gaining a pb by over 3 minutes, Simon Loten finished in (1:44:58) Emma Gilboy (1:45:15) Matthew Botting (1:47:31) Joanne Loten (1:50:44) Katie Codling (1:52:43) Fleur Ricklin (1:54:41) with a pb of over 11 minutes having been running only 9 months. Simon Gilboy also had a great run finishing in (1:56:10)

RICHMOND MARATHON
Sunday 18th September 2016

Brian Lewis ran the first Richmond Marathon, this very very flat marathon started with a scenic 3 miles around Kew Garden Before joining the Thames Path to Hampton Court Palace where Henry the Eighth gave everyone a Hi 5 at the halfway point, the route then returned to Richmond Park Brian Lewis finished 476th in time of 4:24:34


10K SCHLATTER VILLAGE RUN
Sunday 18th September 2016

Debbie Drake ran the 10K Schlatter Village run in the Black Forest just south of Freiburg Germany on Friday evening. 4 laps of the village very flat and cool only 19 degrees. surprising herself again by knocking 13 seconds off her PB. (49.31)

GREAT NORTH RUN
Sunday 11th September 2016

2016 GNR Anne Lucas
Torbay AC’s 65+ super vet Anne Lucas ran the Great North Run along with 56000 entrants including Olympic Gold Medallist Mo Farah. Anne finishing 22024th in (2:19:49) but did not see Mo Farah who finished first in (1:00:04) Starting in Newcastle upon Tyne the 13.1 mile route took runners through the city centre towards the River Tyne from there runners run through Gateshead to South Shields and the seafront finish. Afterwards saying “It was very hot & busy! I really struggled round the course although not my best time”


MICHELMORES CHARITY 5K RUN
Thursday 8th September 2016

Simon Longthorpe was first finisher in (16:47) in the Michelmores Charity 5k Run around Exeter’s City centre. Over 1000 runners took part in this annual event, now in its 17th year, to raise funds this year for Michelmores’ local Charity “Balloons” a fantastic local charity that supports bereaved children and their families in Exeter and the South West.


KINZIGTAL 10K
Sunday 11th September 2016

2016 Kinzigtal 10k Debbie Drake
Debbie Drake had a good run in Germany in the Kinzigtal 10k a hilly route in the Black Forest on trails and tracks it was very hot at 28c. Debbie Drake finished in 52.45 with a surprised first V50 cat win.


SIMON FIRST IN THE LAST RUN EXE SUMMER 5K

It was top podium place again for Simon Longthorpe last Tuesday evening in the last of the Run the Exe 5k series, on a great traffic free course around Exwick Playing Fields, five Torbay AC finished in the top 20 positions with four in top 11 Simon Longthorpe (15:53) – 9 Peter Monaghan (16:52) – 10 Tim Watson (16:57) – 11 Ian Tyson (17:06) – 20 Martyn Breslan (17:51)

At the Bridgewater Half Marathon 151st placed finisher was Raymond Wilson (1:52:55) while in the 10k event finishing in 7th place was Peter Monaghan (36:38, 1st MV50) in 55th place was Ian Sharrock (52:08)


WIGAN 10k
Sunday 4th September 2016

At the WIGAN 10k, 660th was Steve Carr (50:08) on a fairly flat and fast route taking in some of the town’s land marks, starting in the town centre heading to Parsons Walk between Wigan College and the new Wigan Youth Zone, around the DW Stadium before heading back to the town centre.


ANNIKA WINS CITY TO SEA ULTRA MARATHON
Saturday 3th September 2016

In the City to Sea Ultra-Marathon 55 Miles event finishing first Lady was Annika Longthorpe in (9:14:41) The event started from Exeter Quayside and wound its way to Berry Head in Brixham before heading to Torquay and finally up to Babbacombe Downs for the finish line and event village. Torbay AC’s Annika Longthorpe chased hard in the last three stages of the Ultra finishing just minutes behind the race winner, she finished 2nd overall and 1st lady home in a time of 9:14:41 beating her nearest female rival Debbie Burman by 2 hours and 5 minutes.

While in Ultra Relay the Torbay AC Team consisting of Lisa Haley, Keith Simpson, Simon Kitchin and Fay Cameron finished first Ultra relay in a time of 09:46:49

The City to Sea Marathon also from Exeter Quayside 26.5 miles with a tough last 6 miles on the coast path from Shaldon to Babbacombe and that finishing line Running for Torbay AC were 22nd Nick Robinson (05:05:17) , 51st Steve Rowe (05:37:22) 51st Steve Sharp (05:37:22)

The THHN City to Sea events are being organised by Torbay Holiday Helpers Network, our aim is to not only put on a first class event but to raise funds for the charity, all profits from the events go towards helping families affected by serious illness and bereavement by giving them a free fun filled holiday so they can gain some memories to treasure forever.
