LUSTLEIGH SHOW 10K
Monday 29th August 2016

The Lustleigh 10K is renowned locally in Devon as one of the most challenging multi-terrain courses in the local running calendar. The course takes you over hilly lanes, down muddy tracks, through beautiful woodland, along the river Bovey before spitting you out into the village of Lustleigh and back to the show field to be cheered to the finish line by a horde of supporters.

Few minutes before the start of the race runners enjoy seeing the red arrow fly pass. They’ll be appeared alongside loads of other great attractions, two live music stages, a horse show, a dog show, great food & drink, and over 100 stalls.

Weather conditions was the hottest for many years.

Forest Flyer is nearly 5 miles completely off-road running through the beautiful surroundings of Haldon Forest Park near Exeter. Contrary to popular belief this route is not flat! The last 1200 metres was all up hill to the finish line.

Jerry Hocking led Torbay team home in 11th place. Annika Longthorpe won second lady overall.

SIMON LONGTHORPE WINS DARTMOITH REGATTA 5 MILE ROAD RACE
Saturday 27th August 2016

2016 Dartmouth Regatta 5 group

This infamous 5.1 m road race is now in its 36th year. Starting at the Boatfloat Bridge on South Embankment, follow the long steep road out to Stoke Fleming towards the mouth of the river Dart. Once at Stoke Fleming (half way) runners turn return via the lanes towards Little Dartmouth, then back to Dartmouth`s South Embankment and the finish in front of a crowd of hundreds of cheering spectators.

Torbay Simon Longthorpe wins the Dartmouth Regatta 5 mile road race beating Alex Crossland Clevedon AC by 24 seconds. Simon was 2nd last year. Torbay has won this race 3 times in 4 years.

Next home was Torbay was  Lee Turner 3rd. Torbay had 5 members in top 11.

Category Winners Simon Longthorpe, Peter Monaghan, Jon Parkinso and Tessa Hearfield.

Torbay men won the team prize again. (3 to count) Simon Longthorpe,  Lee Turner & Peter Monaghan.

Torbay Junior Alexander Bly finish 2nd in the Dartmouth Regatta Youth Race and only 2 seconds behind Sam Yearling Erme Valley Harriers who won the race. Junior race was 1.5 miles.

MARK BRUCE RUNS A HALF IN TWO COUNTRIES
SEVERN BRIDGE HALF MARATHON
Sunday 28th August 2016

The race was awarded UK’s BEST NEW RACE.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the bridge opening in 1966.
The route suits both first timers and experienced club runners – it provides something a bit different from your average ‘run-of-the-mill’ city half marathon: stunning views, sea air, scenic country lanes and villages and the opportunity to participate in a unique running event on a closed motorway and across the iconic Severn Bridge. Mark Bruce finished 605th out of 2500 runners.

Every year Torbay Athletic Club organise the 5000 metre track championship on the 400 metre track at Torre Valley North Torquay. 12 and a half lap. 

Last years winner Peter Monaghan was race winner again and 1st Male Vet age 50.
Club Lady Winner was Emma Gilboy and 1st FV35.
1st Junior was Shaun McKernan.
1st FV45 Jo Loten. 1st FV55 Irene Hewings.
1st SM Ian Tyson, 1st MV40 Jon Parkinson. 1st MV60 Mike Davies.
After the race members enjoyed cakes made by couple of club ladies and a free BBQ paid for by  Prodirect.

Race winner was Peter Monaghan and 1st MV50.
Lady Winner was Emma Gilboy and 1st FV35.

Team Torbay at the finish of the Jurassic Coast 10K, great course, well marshalled and a great day for all. 47th Paul Frissen (47:09) – 65th Karen Frissen (49:01) – 94th Linda Philippou (52:09), 140th Andy Philippou (57:20) from a field of 260 finishers.


GREAT WILDERNESS CHALLENGE

2016 Great Wilderness Challenge

Every year, the picturesque Scottish Highland villages of Poolewe and Aultbea, along with the surrounding country estates, play host to one of Scotland’s most gruelling endurance sporting events for charity. The Great Wilderness Challenge more than aptly lives up to its name.

Against some of the most beautiful and rugged scenic landscape on offer in the United Kingdom, the Challenge consists of a number of physically demanding walks and runs over a variety of distances and terrains. ran 19 miles across the Highlands in the Great Wilderness Challenge. It was boggy, wet, rocky and brutal, but stunning too. Torbay Adharanand Finn took on the 19 mile event and ran sub 3 hours.

2016 Totnes 10k Start

Forty Seven Torbay Athletic Club members ran in the Totnes 10k a nearly all off road event following the beautiful River Dart, starting and finishing in Borough Park. Torbay AC claimed their 9th Mens Team Prize in 10 years ( 8 times in a row) with the Torbay Ladies also winning this years Ladies team prize. The Torbay Men’s Team of 5 were led home by Simon Longthorpe (36:31, 2nd MV35) followed by Lee Turner (36:51, 3rd MV35), Pater Monaghan (38:26, 1st MV50), Jon Parkinson, (39:51, 1st MV45), Andrew Longthorpe (40:58), Steve Weeks (43:43). Leading the Ladies Team was Naomi Flanagan (45:46, 3rd FV35) Cathy Parkinson (46:45, 1st FV50), Annika Longthorpe (48:13, 1st FV40), Lotta Savola (50:22) in her 20th race for Torbay after only joining 9 weeks ago.

MENDIP MARAUDER ULTRA
Sunday 7th August 2016

Brian Lewis competed in the Mendip Marauder Ultra on Saturday before running the Totnes 10k on Sunday, this 30 mile Ultra across the West Mendip Way took in over 4000ft of ascent, it was very hot but stunning route. Finished 33rd at a time of 7hrs 36 mins

Nine Torbay members ran in the 5th round of the Run Exe Summer 5k.. A great traffic free and pancake flat 5km run on footpaths and cycle tracks around Exwick Playing Fields Many PB were claimed on the night by club members.
